The goal: to create several predictable moments throughout the year when major features will be launched.

This year, I asked the Three Wise Men for a "Week Free of Updates." Why? Because Atlassian users—and specifically those of us who manage instances—sometimes get a bit overwhelmed by the constant pace of updates the company has maintained until now.

Every week you entered a workspace, you might see new menus, buttons, or options. Thousands of users noticed these too, and in many cases, they triggered hundreds of support tickets or inquiries. As you can imagine, yes, Jira takes the cake in this regard.

We suspect this feedback reached Atlassian through many channels (not just my letter to the Three Wise Men), and we’re starting 2026 with great news: in 2026, Jira will move to a seasonal update cycle, which they have dubbed Jira Seasonal Releases.

What exactly does this mean?

First of all, we will no longer receive constant updates in Jira. Instead, these updates will take place at three specific points throughout the year:

  • Spring: Coinciding with Atlassian's annual flagship event in the USA, Team.

  • Summer: Positioned between the company's two most significant milestones.

  • Autumn: Coinciding with the annual European conference, Team Europe.

Secondly, we will be able to plan communications with our users, organize necessary training, and prepare for spikes in support requests. Furthermore, Atlassian has committed to providing direct resources to help us communicate each of the new features being introduced.

Finally, the features presented will be more mature and thoroughly tested by the time they reach all users.

And the rest of the year?

These three seasonal launch windows will bundle the most significant and impactful Jira features for teams.

That doesn't mean Atlassian will stop making small adjustments, bug fixes, or performance improvements throughout the year. Of course, new feature releases will also continue for the rest of the platform's apps, such as Confluence, Bitbucket, or Trello.

As always, the Atlassian Roadmap will remain public, allowing us to track all the innovations expected in the coming months.

When does this new model begin?

Fittingly, this new model will go into effect during Team ’26, which returns to Anaheim, California this year between May 5th and 7th.

The Sngular team will be there live to bring you real-time updates on everything happening ;)
