Rovo for listening to Confluence content summaries: information can now be heard

On August 15, 2025, Atlassian announced a new feature in the community, which is now available for Confluence Cloud. Audio Briefings, a new way to access content without having to read long pages or blogs. With this function, key information is converted into a voice-narrated summary, like a personal mini-podcast.

Using it is simple: by clicking the headphone icon on the page, Confluence generates a spoken summary that can be adjusted in length and tone, from formal to more conversational or light-hearted. Additionally, the system automatically includes key information from the document and up to nine embedded links, ensuring the briefing covers the most important points.

The usefulness of this feature goes beyond convenience. For those who prefer listening to reading, for users who consume information while doing other tasks, or for those who need extra accessibility support, Audio Briefings offer a quick, inclusive, and efficient way to stay up-to-date.

In short, this innovation transforms how we interact with information within Confluence: it's no longer necessary to read lengthy documents; you can simply play a summary tailored to your needs and context.

Let's break down its functionality point by point:

What is it?

Audio Briefings is a feature powered by artificial intelligence (Atlassian AI) that automatically generates a spoken summary of pages, blogs, or documents in Confluence. It's as simple as clicking the headphone icon in the sidebar of a page to hear a clear and concise version of the content.

How does it work?

  • AI analyzes the most relevant information on the page, including tables or embedded content, and produces an efficient voice summary.

  • In the “Listen” tab, you can fast-forward or rewind the recording, as well as increase or decrease the audio speed.

  • There is also a "Sources" tab next to the audio player that shows which parts of the content were used to generate the summary. You can also add links to other pages to be included in the narration.

  • Finally, the “Customise” tab allows you to adjust the audio's tone and duration.

Who is it for?

  • Those who want to stay informed without reading long documents, whether on the go or when visual concentration is low.

  • Users who need screen readers.

  • People with visual impairments (accessibility), those who prefer listening, or those who are busy with other tasks.

Positive impact

  • Promotes inclusivity, ensuring everyone has access to information, regardless of their abilities or context.

  • Enhances accessibility and fosters a more human experience by allowing users to “listen” to a page as if it were a personal podcast.

Current limitations

In some browsers, like Firefox, the "Listen to summary" button may be disabled, showing the message “Your browser doesn’t support this feature.” As a temporary workaround, using another browser is recommended.

Availability

This section is very important to specify because, after reading about the benefits this feature offers, it's worth noting that it is not available for all Confluence versions.

  • It is a Cloud-only feature. If you are still on a Server or Data Center environment, you will not be able to use this new functionality.

  • Its capabilities are tied to Atlassian Intelligence and, therefore, are currently only available for Premium and Enterprise plans. Instances on Standard plans will gradually see it rolled out throughout the year as Rovo and its capabilities also become available to them.

  • If your instance is on a Free plan, you will not be able to benefit from this feature.

Conclusion

Audio Briefings turn reading into a more practical and accessible experience within Confluence. By transforming content into voice-narrated summaries, it allows anyone to stay informed quickly, conveniently, and flexibly, regardless of whether they prefer to read or listen.

In short, it is a feature that brings information to more users, boosts productivity, and makes Confluence a more inclusive tool—as long as you have a Premium or Enterprise plan for now, since Standard plan users will have to wait until early 2026.
